ABOUT Shine MSD

Sawyer Garrity and Andrea Peña, drama students at Stoneman Douglas High School, channeled the pain and anger they felt after the school shooting into writing an original song, “Shine,” that quickly caught on and became the anthem for our movement. Shine MSD, a 501 (c) (3) charitable foundation, was born to encourage healing through the arts and aims to raise relief funds for victims and their families, as well as provide mental health programs centered around the arts at Stoneman Douglas High School and the community of Parkland.

ABOUT CHANGE THE REF

Change The Ref, a  pending 501 (c) (3), charitable foundation was formed to empower our Future Leaders. CTR gives the kids of today the tools they need to be empowered to make changes to critical issues that affect our nation, through education, conversation, and activism. It uses urban art and nonviolent creative confrontation to expose the disastrous effects of the mass shooting pandemic.

Change The Ref’s ultimate goal is to give the young generation of survivors and victims a disrupting voice to help lead the way to change – a more peaceful future. #NeverAgain.  CTR is an organization created to fuel the youth of today, empowering them to lead the way and make impactful changes happen.

Founded in the memory of their son, Joaquin- who was one of the 17 victims, Manuel and Patricia Oliver are committed to making sure that their son’s life and the lives of the other 16 victims are never forgotten and that real change happens to prevent future tragedies like this from happening ever again.

The only way that will occur is if we have the ability engage the next generation and the generations after to get involved, fight for their values and beliefs and have their voices heard!

THE MISSION is to empower our next generation so they can fight for their values, have their voices heard, and impact change for their future.

FAQS

It’s the inaugural year of what is meant to be an annual non-political event meant to help soothe and heal the community of Parkland and its residents.  Big name entertainers, artists, chefs/restaurateurs, and mixologists from around The Americas will convene to make this the event of the year.  It’s also the culmination and Grand Finale of a weeklong series of over 80 Concerts Across America to End Gun Violence. https://www.facebook.com/ConcertAcrossAmerica/

The idea behind this event other than healing and soothing the community, is to prepare everyone to vote in the upcoming elections.  As you know, EVERYONE’S vote counts these days and we aim to make that the theme of our event. There will be no political speeches, etc. The entire country, regardless of their position on gun control reform, wants gun violence to stop.

Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 5pm-10pm at Pine Trails Park in Parkland, Florida.
